Search and Seizures

Searches and seizures by school officials are conducted to ensure the safety and well-being of students and staff, focusing on dangerous weapons, stolen property, contraband, drugs, or alcohol. School officials must have reasonable grounds to suspect that a search will reveal evidence of a violation, and the search must be reasonable in scope and respectful of the student's privacy. Any search must be documented, conducted with minimal intrusion, and performed with adult witnesses when possible. Random dog sniff searches may also occur with prior approval from School Police Services. The entire policy can be viewed at the following.  Search and Seizure Policy (AR 5145.12).

Restorative Discipline Policy

The Restorative Discipline Policy at Farb Middle School and throughout SDUSD emphasizes repairing harm and restoring relationships rather than relying solely on punitive measures. When conflicts or misconduct occur, students are encouraged to take responsibility for their actions, reflect on the impact of their behavior, and engage in meaningful dialogue with those affected. Through restorative circles, mediation, and collaborative problem-solving, students develop empathy, accountability, and conflict resolution skills. This approach promotes a safe, respectful, and inclusive school environment where all members of the community feel valued and supported.

Partnering with Parents: Safe and Healthy Social Media Use

As part of Mental Health Awareness Month, we encourage families to focus on the responsible use of social media and its impact on mental well-being. We encourage parents to explore and use the family resources and student resources to support safe and responsible social media use at home. These helpful tools can be accessed through the following links: Family Resources and Student Resources.

Parent/Guardian Visitation Policy

Farb Middle welcomes parent/guardian visitation but requires they be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance and follow specific procedures to ensure campus safety and instructional continuity. All visitors must check in at the front office, wear a visitor badge, be escorted by staff, avoid interacting with students, and limit visits to one classroom observation per month unless otherwise agreed upon.
